In June, I joined the BISA annual conference 2026 in Brighton, where I convened a roundtable titled “The global impact of China’s technological leadership and offshoring: Towards a second China shock?”, hosted by the International Political Economy Working Group (IPEG), which was recorded for the SPERI Presents…LIVE podcast series. With Yvette To (Hong Kong Polytechnic) Shizhi Zhang, and Zhengli Huang (Sheffield-Urban Studies). Chaired by Chris Saltmarsh (SPERI). The recording is available here.
I also convened a panel on the political economy of Central Asia with Madina Gazieva (Dublic City), Lorena Lombardozzi (SOAS), Jessica Neafie (Nazarbayev University), chaired by Stuart Shields (Manchester), and hosted by the East Europe and Eurasia Working Group (where he has joined the co-conveners team). During the panel, I presented a paper co-authored with Franco Galdini (Birmingham) on the everyday political economy of Chinese EV production in Uzbekistan. Finally, I convened and chaired the book presentation for Luca Anceschi’s new book “Pandemic Politics in Central Asia” (just published on May 2026), which I discussed with Giulia Sciorati (LSE) and Roland Dannreuther (University of Westminster).
